Chapter Twenty-One: Accidental Rage

As Salem and Gideon got closer to the house, something felt off to her. There was a low level of anger simmering below the surface, completely ruining the content feeling she felt moments before. Slowing her pace, she glanced at Gideon and frowned, confusion crossing her face. “Something doesn’t feel right.”

“What do you mean?” He stopped walking, placing himself between her and the house. “Like, someone is here and this place is a bad omen, or…” He watched her, waiting for an answer.

Salem shook her head, hand coming up to rub her chest. “No, I think it might be the bond. I haven’t been able to feel it yet, not from Bryce, but I think it’s him.” She shoved passed Gideon and sprinted up the front steps. When she opened the front door, she was greeted by two yelling voices. Glancing behind her, she spared Gideon a questioning glance before she dashed forward to see what the commotion was about. From afar, she could hear the Scottish hint in one of the voices, and the other definitely belonged to Bryce.

When she stepped into the kitchen, she spotted the startled Arthur, first. The older butler was crushed into the corner of the kitchen near the stove, clutching a dish rag to his chest. Apparently, he had been drying off the dishes from breakfast when the fight broke out and he knew better than to get in the middle of it. A few feet in front of him, Briggs stood by watching intently. He had tried to get between the brawling males when the fight broke out and earned a right hook to the jaw for it. After that, he threw his hands up and let the two go at it.

They were fighting over Salem. Bryce had gotten a whiff of her on Elijah’s skin when he passed him while getting a cup of coffee, and when Bryce put two and two together, he lost it. Suddenly, Salem’s lashing out at the hound in the bedroom made sense. But the hound had upset her, he had to have hurt her for her to react so violently, and it made his blood boil. The first thing out of his mouth had been asking Elijah what he did. When the hound smirked and shrugged, telling him it wasn’t his business, tempers rose.

Then they exploded. He was in Elijah’s face, snatching the front of his suit jacket as he slammed the guy into the wall. The first punch was a warning and had landed an inch from his head, cracking the drywall behind him. From there, Elijah landed a cold cock of his own, busting Bryce’s lip open in the process. Briggs tried to stop it before it turned into the two of them literally rolling around on the floor, beating the hell out of each other, but it was no use. They had some issues to work out.

When Salem entered the room, Briggs glanced across it and shrugged. “I tried.”

“What the fuck are they doing?” She snapped.
